The subject of hypnosis is unfortunately still associated with that of being cliché or a pseudoscience. Perhaps when hearing the word "hypnosis", your mind conjures up a scene of a hypnotist on stage controlling the behavior of a hypnotized person. While this is an example of stage hypnosis, it is very different from therapeutic hypnosis. Therapeutic hypnosis consists of helping a person make progress in life: put into question his or her negative thoughts and helps him or her become the kind of person he or she wants to be.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is one of the most powerful tools for personal evolution and change. It's works very pleasantly with the subconscious. The goal of hypnosis is to realize some of the thoughts you have lodged in the subconscious mind and to bring them into consciousness.

Hypnosis is:

  • A way to work with the subconscious. During hypnosis, you can bypass the conscious part of your mind that likes to evaluate and analyze, and pass into the subconscious part of your mind to get to your inner resources.
  • A way to increase your creativity by transferring your subconscious thoughts into consciousness.
  • Natural state of mind. The status of trance will help you consider things you have not considered before.
  • Hypnosis trance helps you to change the perception of certain situations and events in order to help you find out if the interpretation of some of the events you have experienced in the past has been correct.

The willingness and ability of individuals to be hypnotized differs greatly, but in general, several sessions are needed to achieve meaningful results. In order for hypnotherapy to produce results, the hypnotized person should have a desire to change and be totally open and committed to the process.

What is not Hypnosis?

Here are the most common myths about hypnosis:

  • The hypnotist has complete control over the mind and behavior of the hypnotized person
    Untrue. Hypnosis has its own power, but this lies not in the hypnotist but the hypnotized individual. The hypnotist acts as a guide that helps hypnotized people find their inner strength within themselves. The hypnotized person will only do what he or she would do in their normal state. Hypnosis helps to give hypnotized individuals more control, instead of less control.
  • People cannot think during hypnosis
    That's also not true. Conversely, during hypnosis, their perception is increased.
  • Hypnosis is an unnatural state of mind and certain individuals cannot be hypnotized
    This is false. Hypnosis or trance is the natural state of mind in which we find ourselves several times a day. Maybe there are times when you drive a car. Have you ever experienced arriving at your intended destination without being fully conscious of the roads you took? This is a sign that you have switched to autopilot while driving and naturally entered into a trance. Another example can be when you're so intently watching TV that your surroundings simply fade away.
  • Hypnosis is a type of sleep
    No. In hypnosis, an individual gets into a state of trance and at this point, his or her perception is increased and focused exclusively on the voice of the hypnotist.
